Happy Yankee-Jock Day. For those who don’t live in my house, Saturday was a combined celebration of Saint Andrew’s Day, and American Thanksgiving. A celebration of all things American and Scottish.
In other words, haggis for breakfast, turkey for dinner! 🙂
And today is another happy day. My first book is now available to purchase on Amazon:
This book is the first in a series of ten that I have written over the last two years. They will form the basis of my future business.
The ethos of my company, Independent Marine Limited, is fairly simple. We are independent, and we want you to be independent as well.
So what does that mean?
Independence doesn’t mean going it alone. It means not being over-reliant on unreliable partners. It means not assuming that government regulations, training programmes or selective enforcement of laws will work as they should. It means not being naïve about regulatory capture. And it means never assuming that your government will protect you just because you’ve paid your taxes.
At sea, we have to assume that nobody is coming to save us. Even though we’re grateful if they do, we assume the worst and hope for the best.
Our mission is to ‘Enhance Maritime Resilience’.
This title is the first publication in our series on basic maritime safety, Designated Security Duties will arm young seafarers and experienced officers with detailed practical and legal knowledge on ship security.
The upcoming titles will include Personal Safety, Social Responsibility, Human Element Leadership and Management, Basic Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention, and more on the relationship between civilian shipping and the military.
You may have noticed the new logo. I have retained the theme of duality using nautical stripes. The main motif of the new logo is an anchor and a book. We are anchored in the book. On one page is a Saint Andrew’s cross, which opposes the other, the nautical stripes representing duality.
I hope you like it.
For all of you in the maritime industry out there, please purchase, review and share the book. If you know of a maritime training establishment who’d like to run or improve their ship security training courses, please let me know. Contact me via the website for deep discounts/bulk orders.
Many thanks for your support.
